Hundreds of students, staff, and faculty gathered on Nov. 7 for the sixth annual First Gen College Celebration to honor the accomplishments of CSUDH’s first-generation students. Being the first in your family to attend university is a phenomenal achievement—and one which too often requires overcoming barriers and hardships. That was the central message at CSUDH’s 5th Annual First Generation Celebration on Nov. 8, an event dedicated to the nearly 50 percent of Toro students who are forging this path for themselves and their families. Anne Soon Choi Named 2022 Lyle E. Gibson Distinguished Teacher
Anne Soon Choi loves to teach. As professor and chair of Interdisciplinary studies, she is passionate about engaging students in critical thinking, enabling them to personally connect to their coursework, and facilitating hands-on learning. “The best way to learn is by doing,” Choi says. “The most important thing is that my students walk away with skills that can be applied to their lives.” That enthusiasm for teaching has earned Choi the 2022 Lyle E.
