Students from CSUDH's art and design department welcomed celebrated artist Lauren Halsey to campus this week for a wide-ranging discussion about her approach to art, her creative process, and the importance of community in an event co-hosted by the University Art Gallery and the PRAXIS Community Engagement Program. Halsey's work has been the subject of a solo exhibition at the gallery since March. Sitting among the signage, collages, and sculpture that make up the exhibition, the artist characterized her work as “love letters” or “moments of meaning” gathered over many years. The University Art Gallery at CSUDH proudly presents a solo exhibition of work by the Los Angeles-based artist Lauren Halsey. The exhibition will be on view March 12 through December 10, 2022; Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The public is invited to an opening reception for “Lauren Halsey” on Saturday, March 12, from 12 to 6 p.m. The artist's latest venture in funkified placemaking, this exhibition extends Halsey's architectural mappings, materializing itself in objects, names, remembrances, and colors of home.
