On Saturday, October 22, California State University, Dominguez Hills will once again host “La Feria Es El Momento: Edúcalos” (The Moment is Now: Educate Them Fair), an education fair for Spanish-speaking families organized by Univision's local station KMEX-TV, Channel 34, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Torodome Gymnasium. This is the third year for the education fair, which last year attracted 27,000 people to campus. To celebrate the opening of “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,” the Department of Theatre and Dance hosted a Victorian “Hyde” Tea to give audiences a first-hand glimpse at the world of the play's characters. Director Naomi Buckley (Class of '00, B.A., theatre arts) and the cast welcomed guests to the dark side of 19th century Great Britain, when the wealthy were obsessed with imposing British mannerisms upon the world, despite the prevalence in their own country of poverty and deprivation. Ruben Garcia: Guitarist Strikes a Chord at Major League Soccer Game
Although many students probably wish they could end their freshman year in college with fireworks and a round of applause, Ruben Garcia got to do just that. The music major at California State University, Dominguez Hills was selected to perform “The Star Spangled Banner” at the start of a Major League Soccer game at the Home Depot Center last May. Marketing the match between the Los Angeles Galaxy and Sporting Kansas City was an internship program for two business administration students, Melissa Velasco and Robert Aragon. CSU Dominguez Hills Awarded Unprecedented Fifth U.S. Department of Education Transition to Teaching Grant
The U.S. Department of Education has awarded $949,430 to California State University, Dominguez Hills–the first-year allotment of a five-year, $5.09 million Transition to Teaching (TTT) grant–to create an online credential program for math and science teachers throughout southern and central California. The university's proposal was one of only 30 funded nationwide, and one of only five in California.
