CSUDH’s first Toro Giving Day was a huge success, far exceeding the target number of donations and raising thousands of dollars to support key programs across campus.
The event, held March 20, was a one-day fundraising blitz, intended to give the Toro community an opportunity to channel their support for CSUDH in a singular fashion, by banding together and donating all at once.
The initial goal for the day was 300 individual donors, which would unlock a $20,000 challenge donation from the board of directors of the CSUDH Philanthropic Foundation. That target was surpassed long before the day was up, with a final tally of 476 donors committing $80,102 to programs and initiatives at the university.
“This was an incredible day for our community, because it showed what we can do when we come together to support the great work being done here at California State University, Dominguez Hills,” said Eva Sevcikova, vice president for university advancement. “For our first Toro Giving Day, it was an amazing success, and we’re already looking for ways to make next year even better.”
Donations made as part of Toro Giving Day could be directed to individual colleges or specific designations, including Athletics, Presidential Scholars, or the unrestricted Toro Fund. Additionally, supporters earmarked funds for Teddy’s Pantry, an on-campus resource that provides access to nutritious food for students in need, and the Toro CARE grant program, which provides one-time grants to students facing an unforeseen financial issue.
The successful giving day came as part of a banner year for CSUDH fundraising, which included the largest single gift ever made to the university, a $22 million commitment from Ballmer Group to fund scholarships for students planning to become teachers through the Toros Teach L.A. program.
