ASI President Edgar Mejia-Alezano selecting a winning name for the Toro Tuesday Grand Finale.
For more than twenty years, Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) has hosted Toro Tuesday—a weekly tradition in which students, faculty, and staff proudly don their CSUDH gear. For students, Toro Tuesday is not only a chance to show school spirit, but also to participate in campus activities, make new connections, and win sizable scholarships.
In fact, during the semiannual Toro Tuesday Grand Finale on December 5, ASI awarded scholarships totaling $19,375 to 17 students selected in the participant opportunity drawing.
For student Selena Cortez, who won a $3,000 scholarship, the moment was “filled with excitement.”
“It motivates me to go to class—that money can’t be put to waste,” she says. “I tell students Toro Tuesday is a good way to win little treats through the year, and possibly at the end of the year with a big prize.”
During the Grand Finale event, students also made more than 70 holiday greeting cards for children receiving treatment at UCLA-Harbor hospital.
“The Toro Tuesday Grand Finale is a reflection of the values we hold dear at CSUDH,” said Raven Emmert, ASI Marketing and Public Relations Coordinator. “It’s a vibrant platform for fostering a sense of community and pride among our students.”
Toro Tuesday is held 13 weeks out of each semester. To participate and enter the opportunity drawing, students must visit the ASI office (Loker Student Union 231) on a Toro Tuesday to have their CSUDH clothing and accessories counted. For each item, they receive a ticket for that week’s drawing. Two winners are drawn each week and entered into the Grand Finale drawing.
