For the second year, California State University, Dominguez Hills hosted the California Legislative Black Caucus's annual African American Leaders for Tomorrow leadership and college preparedness conference on campus. Sixty African American high school students from throughout the state were selected to participate in the program that aims to cultivate the next generation of African Americans to become leaders in their communities and the state. After a national search, California State University, Dominguez Hills has appointed M. Gary Sayed as the new dean of the College of Health, Human Services and Nursing effective Aug. 11. Sayed comes to CSU Dominguez Hills with 22 years of experience in higher education, including as dean of science and health at Charles Drew University of Medicine and Sciences and founding director of Charles Drew's biomedical sciences program, where he also was professor of biomedical physics. Incoming Freshmen Take First Steps To Success with Summer Bridge Academy
More than 700 members of the incoming Class of 2014 filled the Loker Student Union Dominguez Ballroom on June 30 for the first day of Summer Bridge Academy and took the first steps to becoming the graduating Class of 2018. For the next six weeks, the students will be attending classes to improve their math and/or writing skills to meet the CSU's Early Start requirements prior to starting their freshman year. But beyond the classroom, Summer Bridge participants will be meeting with peer mentors, receiving tutoring from Supplemental Instructors (SIs) and taking part in numerous workshops to introduce them to campus life and the various resources available to them.
