Class of 2012: The Quest for Knowledge Continues

For thousands of Toros, the end of the spring 2012 semester marked the completion of their degree from CSU Dominguez Hills. Many will now enter the workforce for the first time, or seek to change their careers thanks to their newly minted degrees. For still others, the academic road continues. Below are just some of the students who have been accepted into post graduate programs from teacher credential to doctoral at universities throughout the state, country, and world.

We wish them and the entire Class of 2012 the best in their future endeavors.

Africana studies

Darol Kay (magna cum laude; McNair Scholar): Ph.D. program in visual studies at University of California, Irvine.

Chicana/o studies

Edgar Hernandez (honors in the major): Master of Social Work program at the University of Southern California.

English

Alexander Perez (history minor) was accepted to five law schools and will attend Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego.

History

Chris Daley (honors in the major): accelerated one-year social sciences master’s program at the University of Chicago.

Gloria Lopez (summa cum laude; honors in the major): history master’s program at CSU Fullerton.

Chantal Walker: University of California, Los Angeles master’s program in American Indian studies.

Clark Woods: teaching credential program at CSU Dominguez Hills.

Negotiation, Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding

Sahar Namazikhah (M.A.): doctoral program in conflict analysis at George Mason University

Jessica Soria (M.A.): master’s program at Columbia University

Spanish

Josefina Inzunza-Quinonez: CSU Long Beach Spanish master’s program.

Interdisciplinary studies

Joni Wilson (McNair Scholar): Master of Social Work program at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Behavioral Science

Chez Ruf (minor, psychology; summa cum laude): master’s in forensic psychology program at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, with plans to become a licensed professional clinical counselor.

Biology

Mahyar Kohanbash (M.S.): USC School of Dentistry.

Larry Shing-Huen Hon (M.S.): University of Nevada at Las Vegas School of Dentistry.

Allison Haskell: graduate program at UC Irvine.

Brittany Goudeau: UC San Francisco School of Pharmacy

Beatriz Arellanes (cum laude): Western University of Health Science College of Pharmacy in Pomona.

Eugene Shin: Ross University School of Medicine in the West Indies.

Biochemistry

Kevin Nguyen (McNair Scholar): Ph.D. program in biochemistry at South Dakota State University.

Geography

Daniel Pearlman (magna cum laude): master’s program in geography at Miami University in Ohio.

Yair Piloswky: master’s program in geography at CSU Los Angeles.

Political Science

Robert Becker: political science master’s program at CSU Fullerton.

Yousef Abu-Ghazaleh (summa cum laude): USC Annenberg School of Communication master’s program.

Psychology

Cynthia Ayala: master’s in psychology from CSU Dominguez Hills.

Kenji Michelle Jones (sociology minor): marriage and family therapy master’s program at CSU Dominguez Hills.

Mike Kersten (summa cum laude): Texas Christian University in Fort Worth to work on his doctorate in social experimental psychology.

Mia Quaintance (cum laude; McNair Scholar): master’s in clinical psychology program at CSU Dominguez Hills.

Saira Rab (biology minor; McNair Scholar): Ph.D. in educational psychology program at the University of Houston.

Jessica Sanchez (magna cum laude; McNair Scholar) is entering the Ph.D. in Educational Psychology program at the City University of New York Graduate School.

Christian Somoza (cum laude; McNair Scholar): Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology program at the University of Colorado, Denver.

Ludivina Vasquez (cum laude; MBRS-RISE scholar): University of Tulsa, where she will be enrolled in the master’s program in psychology.

Sociology

Kristian Comeaux (summa cum laude): master’s in library information science program at San Jose State

Kristie Gordon (cum laude; MARC USTAR scholar): master’s in criminal justice program at the University of Alabama.
