Cornel West, the prominent author, professor, and provocative public intellectual, addressed hundreds of fans, friends, and admirers on Sept. 27 as the featured speaker during the Dymally Distinguished Speaker Series. The series is hosted each semester by California State University, Dominguez Hills’ (CSUDH) Mervyn M. Dymally African American Political & Economic Institute. With the theme “Rise of Racism in America: Revisiting ‘Race Matters,’” West’s address broadly centered on his book “Race Matters,” which was published in 1993, a year after the L.A. riots. It features a collection of West’s essays on race in America, which remain relevant today.
