For the eighth summer in a row, California State University, Dominguez Hills was the location for the Sharefest Summer Youth Development Academy (YDA). A South Bay-based nonprofit, Sharefest works to strengthening underrepresented communities through comprehensive programs and services. Through its YDA program, hundreds of middle and high school-aged children from Carson, Harbor Gateway, Harbor City, San Pedro, Watts, and Wilmington communities participate in an enriching summer camp experience that includes activities such as creative writing, dance, service learning, team building, leadership development, and violence prevention. Youth are also introduced to civic leaders, college students, and college professors.
