In June, students, faculty and alumni of the CSU Dominguez Hills Orthotics and Prosthetics program were give the opportunity to meet Oscar Pistorius, who with his debut at the 2012 London Olympics in August became the first double leg amputee to participate in an able-bodied Olympics. The special event was organized by global orthopedic design company Ossur and held at its headquarters in Foothill Ranch. Linda Corsey DeYampert knows how to tackle a challenge. The California State University, Dominguez Hills alumna (Class of '99, B.S., business management) took on a traditionally male-dominated industry when in 2006 she stepped into the role of manager of scheduling operations for one of the fastest-growing cable networks in the country - the National Football League (NFL) Network in Culver City. Artist, retired teacher, and California State University, Dominguez Hills alumna Jeanne Anderson Allen (Class of '82, M.A., humanities) has always found a way to keep following her passions. One of those ways, which led her to CSU Dominguez Hills, was putting a slew of extra units to use – in the form of a master's degree. “As a teacher, you're always going to class to get something that's required here or there. California State University, Dominguez Hills alumna Carmelita Jeter (Class of '06, B.A. physical education) is on her way to the London 2012 Olympic Games in August after winning the women's 100 meter race–her specialty–in 10.92, and finishing in 22.11 for second place in the 200 meter finals in June at the U.S. Olympic track and field trails held in Eugene, Ore. After failing to make the U.S. Olympic team for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Jeter had new resolve going into the 2012 Olympic Trials. “She felt good. Members of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at California State University, Dominguez Hills had a busy week of special events recently as part of its summer program that runs through August.
