Doris Okada, emeritus professor of special education, died on Nov. 28 of complications from atypical Parkinson's disease. Her career at California State University, Dominguez Hills included service as a faculty member from 1975 to 2003, a stent as chair of the Graduate Education Division and coordinator of special education programs, and founder of the university's Infant Toddler Development Center (ITC) for children with special needs, where she was serving as director until shortly before her death. Shell Establishes Scholarship at CSU Dominguez Hills
California State University, Dominguez Hills President Mildred García has announced the creation of the Shell Oil Scholarship thanks to a recent donation from Shell Pipeline Company LP. The Shell Oil Scholarship will be awarded to a full-time student from Carson or other South Bay cities who is in good academic standing and is majoring in one of the university's STEM (science, technology, engineering or mathematics) degree programs. Larry Hauser (1948- 2011): Basketball Coach Mentored Pro Athletes
Larry Hauser, former men's basketball coach, died of complications from internal injuries earlier this month. The Chicago native served as the team's fourth coach from 1997 to 2004. During his tenure, Coach Hauser developed eight All-California Collegiate Athletic Association and two NCAA All-Region student-athletes while leading the program to a second-place league finish during his first season as head coach.
