Daphne Bradford: OLLI Facilitator Prepares the Next Generation to Teach Their Elders
While hosting her syndicated radio program in 1999, “Gospel Entertainment News” Daphne Bradford had the opportunity to interview Rosa Parks shortly before Parks' 86th birthday. In her conversation with Parks, who is considered the mother of the modern civil rights movement, Bradford says that she was impressed with Parks' grasp of technology. “She learned how to use email when she was in her 80s at a community center,” says Bradford. “We talked about what she would like to see young people do and she expressed a few things there. On Saturday, October 22, California State University, Dominguez Hills will once again host “La Feria Es El Momento: Edúcalos” (The Moment is Now: Educate Them Fair), an education fair for Spanish-speaking families organized by Univision's local station KMEX-TV, Channel 34, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Torodome Gymnasium. This is the third year for the education fair, which last year attracted 27,000 people to campus. CSU Dominguez Hills Awarded Unprecedented Fifth U.S. Department of Education Transition to Teaching Grant
The U.S. Department of Education has awarded $949,430 to California State University, Dominguez Hills–the first-year allotment of a five-year, $5.09 million Transition to Teaching (TTT) grant–to create an online credential program for math and science teachers throughout southern and central California. The university's proposal was one of only 30 funded nationwide, and one of only five in California.
