The California STEM Institute for Innovation & Improvement (CSI3), an institute within the Center for Innovation in STEM Education (CISE) at California State University, Dominguez Hills, celebrated the "Ultimate Pi Day" at Gage Middle School in Huntington Park this past Saturday by hosting its inaugural Pi Day Olympics. Business management students from California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) conducted mock job interview sessions to learn essential management techniques, while helping students enrolled at the Southern California Regional Occupational Center (SoCal ROC) gain real-world interview skills to compete in today's competitive workforce. The SoCal ROC Service Learning Project took place on March 2, and included approximately 70 CSUDH students and local business professionals leading practice interviews with as many as 400 high school and other students studying a variety of occupations, from dental assistant and physical therapy aide, to welder and automobile mechanic. “The ... Art and design student Adrian Gonzalez scours a thrift store before finding what he is looking for–an old vintage chair. When he gets home, he places it on the floor, cleans it up and takes a seat to try it out. He then stands, grabs an aluminum baseball bat and begins breaking the chair to bits. Gonzalez arranges the pieces on a canvas placed flat on the floor, adds blue and green shades of paint and dribbles water all over to create an “ocean feel.” He grabs his camera and begins taking pictures, rearranges the splintered wood, then takes more shots. With consistent growth during an entire decade of outstanding student research, faculty mentorship, and well-deserved accolades, the 10th Annual Student Research Day (SRD) at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) highlighted an event poised for expansion for years to come.
