The CSUDH Department of Theatre and Dance invites audiences to experience Canyon by Jonathan Caren, a compelling contemporary drama directed by faculty member Brian Stevens. The production will be presented in the Edison Theatre on October 7-10 and 14-17, 2026, at 7:00 p.m.
Canyon examines what happens when the lives of two families are forever changed by an unpredictable accident. We meet a newlywed couple and a Mexican father and son as they each struggle to find a better view of their circumstances and their future. Through deeply human characters and emotionally charged storytelling, the play explores issues of gender, citizenship, identity, and the costs of pursuing a conventional American life.
Known for his insightful and compassionate writing, Jonathan Caren crafts a timely and thought-provoking work that invites audiences to consider how personal choices, social pressures, and unforeseen events shape our lives. As the characters navigate grief, hope, and resilience, Canyon offers a powerful reflection on what connects us across differences and how we find meaning amidst uncertainty.
Tickets to Canyon are $15 for students and $20 for General Admission. Tickets may be purchased for in-person experience at www.csudh.edu/theatre/tickets.
