Milka Duno: First Latina Racing Champion Sets Pace for College-bound Students

California State University, Dominguez Hills welcomed Milka Duno, the first Latina race car driver to be classified “expert,” to the annual “La Feria Es El Momento: Edúcalos” that took place on campus on Oct. 22. Duno, who represented her “Milka Way” organization at the event sponsored by Univision, was invited by the network to serve as the keynote speaker to an audience in the University Theatre. Duno spoke to students and potential students of all ages and their families and encouraged youths to achieve higher education in order to be successful. Annual “La Feria Es El Momento: Edúcalos” Prepares Families for Higher Education

On Oct. 22, California State University, Dominguez Hills hosted “La Feria Es El Momento: Edúcalos” (The Moment is Now: Educate Them Fair) on campus, welcoming approximately 50,000 visitors from throughout Southern California and even as far south as Tijuana, Mexico. Organized by Univision’s local station KMEX-TV, the Spanish-language education fair promoted a college-bound culture for Spanish-speaking parents and provided information and resources for their children’s success from pre-kindergarten through college. CSU Dominguez Hills Conducts Great California Shakeout Earthquake Drill

From students who dutifully trooped out to the Sculpture Garden to designated staff members who were responsible for evacuating campus buildings, the CSU Dominguez Hills community participated in a statewide earthquake drill, the “Great California Shakeout,” on Oct. 20. Approximately 8.6 million Californians took part in the exercise, which was enacted by residents, businesses, and public agencies throughout the state. The Shakeout exercise was helpful in not only assuring that students, faculty, and staff at CSU Dominguez Hills are ready for an earthquake, but to identify areas where the campus may not be completely ready. Students at California State University, Dominguez Hills regularly have the opportunity to learn about the world’s variety of cultures through academic coursework, special events on campus, and simply by attending one of the most diverse universities in the nation. Annual Pan African Conference Connects Businesses, Educational Potential

The 2nd Annual Pan African Global Trade & Investment Conference was hosted by California State University, Dominguez Hills in conjunction with the UCLA Anderson School of Management on Oct. 13-15, with events taking place at both institutions.
