Kaiser Internship Offers Kinesiology Students Unique Experience
Nicole Chambers and Wendy Barrios, seniors studying kinesiology at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), will have a significant advantage when applying for post-graduate healthcare programs, and invaluable work experience that is often hard to acquire at the undergraduate level. The students, who both are earning their Bachelors of Arts in Physical Education, with the pre-physical therapy option, at CSUDH, were chosen as the first recipients of the new Kaiser Permanente Mobility Technician Internship, which was launched in the fall 2014. CSU Dominguez Hills Named Among Top Universities Granting Degrees to Minorities
California State University, Dominguez Hills is among the nation's top 100 universities granting undergraduate and graduate degrees to minority students, according to Diverse: Issues in Higher Education. In the magazine's “Top 100 Degree Producers” report published this month, CSU Dominguez Hills ranked 47th nationally in total number of bachelor's degrees and 88th in total number of master's degrees awarded to minority students during 2012-13, the academic year for which the magazine had data as reported to the U.S. Department of Education. ‘Vision Tree’ Project Enables CSUDH Alumnus, Students to Help Military Veterans
Eric, a U.S. military veteran, hangs his cat's rescue animal tag on his miniature, three-dimensional tree along with several oranges. The items may seem a bit random, but they are significant to Eric. His cat is his best friend and provides him much-needed emotional support, while the oranges remind him of his childhood and family home that had an orange tree in the yard. Made of floral wire and plaster, Eric constructed his art piece as part of the “Vision Tree,” an art therapy project designed by California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) alumnus Teddy Um (Class of '14, M.A., occupational therapy).
