Faculty Share ‘Heartfelt Memories and Gratitude’ at Faculty Awards Reception

Most of the five award winners shed a tear or two at California State University, Dominguez Hills’ (CSUDH) 2016 Annual Faculty Awards Reception as they shared heartfelt memories and gratitude for the colleagues, students and family members who have helped contributed to their success as educators. During the reception, which took place March 25 in the Loker Student Union ballroom, the award recipients were celebrated for their excellence in teaching, outstanding achievement, and the creative ways they engage students. ‘Envisioning Transformation’ Symposium Stresses Social Justice through Solidarity

“Envisioning Transformation,” a two-day academic symposium that featured talks by nationally-recognized educators from Los Angeles County, explored ways for communities of color to come together to create social justice and harmony through resolute coalitions and transformative action. Organized by the 50th Anniversary Watts Rebellion Commemoration committee, the March 22-23 symposium was a sequel to the fall 2015 symposium “Fire and the Quest for Transformation,” which explored the origins and impact of the Watts Rebellion. CSUDH receives $260,000 NEH Grant to Continue Work Digitalizing Japanese-American History

California State University, Dominguez Hills’ (CSUDH) Archives and Special Collections Department has received $260,000 from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to continue its work digitalizing artifacts that detail life for Japanese Americans held in internment camps during World War II, and daily life during the first half of the 20th Century. This is the second grant CSUDH has received from the NEH, as well as one from the National Park Service—totaling $621,510—to lead a collaborative effort to digitalize and describe thousands of letters, photographs, media reports, ephemera, publications and other materials currently in archive holdings at 15 California State University ... Alumnus Sam Enriquez Serves as Keynote at New York/Tri-State Alumni Reception

California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) alumnus Sam Enriquez served as keynote speaker at the CSU New York/Tri-State Alumni Reception on March 14, an event that annually brings together alumni from throughout the California State University (CSU) system to network and mingle. Enriquez (Class of ’85, B.S., economics) is senior editor, Page One of The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), the largest newspaper in the United States. He edits stories on politics, finance, corporations and foreign affairs, as well as breaking news. ‘Before I Die’ Wall Entices Students to Contemplate the Future, Examine the Past

Before I die… “I want to make my family proud,” scribbled 19-year-old business major Chinaemerem Isika in chalk on the “Before I Die…” wall that has been erected on the east walkway outside California State University, Dominguez Hills’ (CSUDH) Loker Student Union. “When I saw the ‘Before I Die…’ board I became very happy because I have so many more things I want to do before I die,” said Isika, a Nigerian national who has only been in the U.S. for seven months to go to college. “And one of the most important things I want to do is make my family very proud of me.
