Toyota USA Foundation and California State University, Dominguez Hills announced today that together they will tackle workforce readiness issues head-on, creating a new Toyota Center for Innovation in STEM Education (Toyota Center) to inspire learning for students from kindergarten through college. Toyota USA Foundation's $4 million grant will support the design, construction, and equipment for a new 87,000+ square foot science and innovation building on the CSU Dominguez Hills campus, which will house the Toyota Center. Student Research Day 2017 Highlights the Quality of Faculty-Mentored Research
Dozens of academically dynamic and diverse student researchers garnered top honors in 25 categories during California State University, Dominguez Hills' (CSUDH) 12th Annual Student Research Day (SRD) Feb. 15-16, showcasing the value and breadth of faculty-mentored research at the university. This year SRD yielded 349 research abstracts–more than any other year–from undergraduate and graduate students in nearly every academic department from which a total of 258 oral and poster presentations were selected for the conference. Good afternoon and thank you for being here. We are here today, 75 years after the fact, to remember Presidential Executive Order 9066, issued on February 19, 1942 that led to the mass incarceration of Japanese Americans. I know it is not lost on any of us that whenever people gather for a day of remembrance it is often because something immoral an injustice, occurred in the past. CSUDH Commemorates 75th Anniversary of Executive Order 9066
California State University, Dominguez Hills' (CSUDH) daylong commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of Executive Order 9066 (EO 9066), which led to the mass incarceration of Japanese Americans during WWII, drew hundreds of university friends and partners, and members of the campus community. On Feb. 19, 1942, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed EO 9066 authorizing the creation of military areas along thewest coast from which “any and all persons may be excluded” at the discretion of the secretary of war. Terrorism Expert Mark Juergensmeyer: ‘Tolerance and Violence in the Mind of God’
Mark Juergensmeyer, author of the book “Terror in the Mind of God: The Global Rise of Religious Violence” discussed his research on “religious terrorism” Feb. 7 to launch CSU Dominguez Hills' (CSUDH) semester-long speaker series “Tolerance and Violence in the Mind of God.” Juergensmeyer, a professor of sociology and director of global and international studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, is an expert in religious violence, conflict resolution, and the author of 22 books.
