CSUDH faculty conduct groundbreaking research, publish books and journal papers that contribute to their field and highlight their expertise, and participate in conferences around the world. We feature those accomplishments and more in this section. College of Arts and Humanities Gilah Yelin Hirsch, professor of art, is participating in the First International Painters’ Symposium in Oaxaca, Mexico, April 14 - 30. Sponsored and supported by the art and culture branch of Mezcal d’oro, 20 artists toured archeological and anthropological sites, as well as artisanal villages during the first week of the symposium. California State University, Dominguez Hills’ (CSUDH) 3rd Annual “STEM in Action: A Kids Conference” on April 28 will provide close to 1,000 inner-city students the opportunity to participate in interactive science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) activities that will help inspire them to become lifelong learners. 'STEM in Action' will take place Friday, April 28, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., on the North Lawn. Danny Bakewell Sr. to Receive Honorary Doctorate from CSUDH

Danny Bakewell, Sr., founder and chairman of The Bakewell Company, one of the largest African American commercial real estate development groups in the western United States, will receive a California State University honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) during its 2017 commencement. CSUDH will hold two college-based commencement ceremonies for its 4,500 graduating seniors on Friday, May 19. Bakewell will be awarded the honorary degree at the 9 a.m. ceremony for the College of Business Administration and Public Policy, and the College of Health, Human Services, and Nursing, where he will also provide the keynote address. CSUDH Professor, Students Explore Port of LA in Photography Exhibit

Students from California State University Dominguez Hills and their professor are featured in a two exhibitions, “LA Living Space: Photographs by Ellie Zenhari” and “We Will Be Heard: Work by CSUDH Students,” at Angels Gate Cultural Center in San Pedro from April 23 to May 30 that explore the environmental impact of the Port of Los Angeles. An opening reception on April 30 at noon includes an informative exhibit tour, and a student dance performance. The LA Living Space exhibition tour at 1 p.m. will be led by Zenhari, assistant professor of art and design, and Vivian Price, professor of labor studies at CSUDH, who wrote all the accompanying text for the exhibit. Labor, Social, and Environmental Justice Fair Connects Students with Activists

Students, faculty, labor and community organizations from across the greater Los Angeles area will come together to celebrate the Ninth Annual Labor, Social and Environmental Justice Fair hosted by the California State University Dominguez Hills Labor and Social Justice Club and Labor Studies Program from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25.
