CSUDH Graduate Student Awarded CSUPERB Research Grant
In March 2020, much of the laboratory work conducted at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) and many other CSU campuses came to a grinding halt. Now, as campuses repopulate and researchers head back to their labs, the CSU Program for Education and Research in Biotechnology (CSUPERB) has awarded 25 grants to graduate students to restart and reengage in the research activities put on hold due to COVID-19. Stacy Zamora, a graduate student pursuing her master's degree in biology at CSUDH, has earned one of the coveted grants for her research into the neurobiological factors of drug addiction. Chemistry Lab “Bootcamps” Help Get Students Up to Speed
Among the many unfortunate side effects of the COVID-19 pandemic was the loss of in-person instruction for most courses at CSUDH. Some fields of study were impacted more than others by this loss, but for students in the chemistry department it was especially troublesome. Because so much chemistry education relies on in-person lab work, most students missed out on vital hands-on experience. This summer, faculty members of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry decided to do something about it. CSUDH Teams Up with Rite Aid for Community COVID-19 Vaccination Pop-Up Clinic
In partnership with Rite Aid, California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) is once again hosting pop-up vaccination clinics for CSUDH students, faculty, and staff, and members of the community. The campus and Rite Aid previously held pop-up clinics in May and June. The walk-in clinics will take place on two Thursdays, Aug. 26 and Sept. 16, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.* in CSUDH's Extended Education building. A team of Rite Aid health professionals will administer Pfizer vaccines (first or second doses) and single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccines.** Appointments are encouraged but not required. CSUDH Allocated Over $60 Million in State Budget Package
California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) received good news with the recent release of the 2021 California state budget. The $262.2 billion package, signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom in early July, includes $60 million earmarked for a trio of CSUDH campus infrastructure projects, and $1 million for the campus' Mervyn M. Dymally African American Political and Economic Institute. CSUDH President Thomas A.
