CSUDH Launches New Japan Jobs Training Program
On May 9, California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) and the Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles convened with Japanese industry and community representatives to announce the Japan Jobs Training Program, a new academic-industry partnership which promises to bolster Southern California's workforce and provide hands-on learning opportunities for CSUDH students. The new program will be co-hosted by the Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles, Japan Business Association of Southern California, and the Los Angeles Urban League. CSUDH Mental Health Resources Expand and Adapt
Even before the COVID-19 pandemic and its ensuing hardships, college students were not immune to the nation's widespread rise in mental health issues. Studies from the National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI) found that pre-COVID, one in four young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 had a diagnosable mental illness. Among college students nationally, a recent Mayo Clinic study found that 30 percent reported experiencing depression in the past year, while 50 percent said they had felt “overwhelming anxiety” during the same time frame. Commencement 2022 to Celebrate Grads, Feature Distinguished Speakers
On May 20 and 21, California State University, Dominguez Hills will celebrate commencement for the Class of 2022 at the Dignity Sports Health Park Tennis Stadium. The six ceremonies will feature distinguished speakers, including Los Angeles Urban League President and CEO Michael Lawson, to whom the university will confer an honorary doctorate. Lawson is an accomplished lawyer, community advocate, and business leader with a passion for public service. University Archivist Named Mellon Cultural Heritage Fellow
Amalia Medina Castañeda, university archivist at the California State University, Dominguez Hills Gerth Archives and Special Collections, has been selected as one of 15 Rare Book School-Mellon Cultural Heritage Fellows for 2022-2024. The Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship for Diversity, Inclusion & Cultural Heritage is a six-year program that aims to advance multicultural collections through innovative and inclusive curatorial practice and leadership.
