When 7th grader Noah Cabrera is not busy doing his homework, he can often be found stopping fire-setting villains by spinning violently in circles to create a funnel that extinguishes the flames. Noah Cabrera is Tornado Man. But even superheroes need mentors, and Tornado Man's mentor is Catman, who is there for him through thick and thin, much like the “huddle counselors” who have been there for Cabrera and the more than 300 other students who are attending Sharefest's Summer Youth Development Academy (YDA) July 11 through Aug. 5. Summer Bridge Academy Helps Build Peer Networks for Incoming Freshmen
Learning to tap their potential as new California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) students while developing long-lasting friendships and connections on campus, more than 1,000 incoming freshman are participating in the Summer Bridge Academy (SBA), their first step to becoming the graduating Class of 2020. For six weeks, the students participate in a variety of programs that are critical to developing a strong support system, and essential personal strengths and skills during their first year at CSUDH. CSUDH Receives $40k California Arts Council Grant to Develop Arts Program on Campus
California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) has received a $40,000 grant from the California Arts Council (CAC) as part of its 2016 Creative California Communities (CCC) program to establish the Big City Forum: Praxis Studio at CSUDH, a one-year extracurricular, cross-disciplinary arts and design program. The university is one of only 41 grantees this year that received a total of $1,953,707 in grants from the council. With the CAC's support, CSUDH's Art and Design Department will implement the community engagement art program in partnership with the Los Angeles-based arts organization Big City Forum (BCF). Professor Fynnwin Prager’s Study Examines ‘Total Economic Consequences of an Influenza Outbreak’
During flu season, organizations and individuals justifiably focus on vaccinations as a “first line of defense” to reduce health impacts, but a new study led by California State University, Dominguez Hills public policy professor, Fynnwin Prager, shows that the health of the economy during an influenza outbreak requires just as much attention.
