Four teams of competitive student chefs cooked up some school spirit and Swai, an Asian catfish primarily found in the coasts of Cambodia and Vietnam, at the Fifth Annual Iron Chef event held on April 24 in the University Palm Courtyard. Contestants from the groups “Honey Dipped Chocolate,” “Pre-Health Society (PHS) Chefs,” “Peace, Love and Politics,” and “LSBA Skillet” were advised a week before the grand event that there were three possibilities for the secret ingredient: Swai, eggplant, or chicken thigh. Perhaps more than any other professor in the history of California State University, Dominguez Hills, Lois W. Chi, professor emerita of biology, can say she has seen the university evolve. Chi will be presented with the Katherine B. Loker Friend of Education Award for her longtime commitment to the university, her students, and science at the 2012 President's Scholarship Reception on April 26. “I feel very honored. Willie Hagan, interim president of California State University, Fullerton, has been named as interim president of California State University, Dominguez Hills effective June 11. Hagan, 61, has served in various senior leadership positions at Fullerton during his 16 year tenure at the campus, including serving as vice president for administration and chief financial officer. On March 7, the California State University, Dominguez Hills Career Center held its first-ever “Speed Networking with Working Professionals” for students and alumni. Professionals from local businesses and organizations volunteered their time to help students develop their networking and interview skills and gain insight into the working life they will embark on after graduating. On Saturday, Jan. 28, approximately 200 people were on campus to attend the College is Possible town hall meeting sponsored by the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) and Staples Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Staples office supply company.
