Exhibit Explores Mid-Century Lives of Japanese Americans in Southern California
For more than 40 years, historians and archivists at California State University, Dominguez Hills have been gathering materials documenting the lives of Japanese Americans in the South Bay and Los Angeles. Milka Duno: First Latina Racing Champion Sets Pace for College-bound Students
California State University, Dominguez Hills welcomed Milka Duno, the first Latina race car driver to be classified “expert,” to the annual “La Feria Es El Momento: Edúcalos” that took place on campus on Oct. 22. Duno, who represented her “Milka Way” organization at the event sponsored by Univision, was invited by the network to serve as the keynote speaker to an audience in the University Theatre. Annual “La Feria Es El Momento: Edúcalos” Prepares Families for Higher Education
On Oct. 22, California State University, Dominguez Hills hosted “La Feria Es El Momento: Edúcalos” (The Moment is Now: Educate Them Fair) on campus, welcoming approximately 50,000 visitors from throughout Southern California and even as far south as Tijuana, Mexico. Organized by Univision's local station KMEX-TV, the Spanish-language education fair promoted a college-bound culture for Spanish-speaking parents and provided information and resources for their children's success from pre-kindergarten through college. Duality of Human Nature Revealed with Theatre Arts’ “Jekyll and Hyde”
To celebrate the opening of “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,” the Department of Theatre and Dance hosted a Victorian “Hyde” Tea to give audiences a first-hand glimpse at the world of the play's characters. Director Naomi Buckley (Class of '00, B.A., theatre arts) and the cast welcomed guests to the dark side of 19th century Great Britain, when the wealthy were obsessed with imposing British mannerisms upon the world, despite the prevalence in their own country of poverty and deprivation.
