California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) will host a livestream production of “A Surge of Power,” an original student-written theatre production that gives voice to the rising plea for social equity. The show will run March 11, 12, 13, and 16 at 7 p.m. “A Surge of Power” is one result of the pledge the Department of Theatre and Dance made last summer in support of the Black Lives Matter movement to tell stories that denounce racism and bigotry, and foster empathy for all people. Described by the judges as a “well-designed and executed integrated marketing campaign to engage alumni,” California State University, Dominguez Hills' (CSUDH) “I'm a Toro” banner campaign took bronze during the virtual Council for Advancement and Support of Education's (CASE) 2021 District VII Awards of Excellence ceremony on Feb. 5. Entered in the “Alumni Relations: Targeted Constituency Engagement” category, the “I'm a Toro” campaign decorated the campus walkways with striking banners showcasing many of the university's most successful alumni. ‘Lessons in the Lyrics’ Essay Contest
In honor of CSUDH's 2021 Black History Month theme "The Racial Wealth Gap," the Rose Black Resource Center and Associated Students, Inc., is partnering with the Africana Studies Department to host "Lessons in the Lyrics," an essay contest to encourage students to find financial lessons and advice within the lyrics of their favorite rap or hip-hop songs. The Africana Studies Department is hosting a Zoom watch party and discussion of “The Big Picture: A Race for America,” an Al Jazeera English documentary focused on private funding from foundations and its impact on Black lives through the pandemic, social protests, and politics. Innovative Research Earns Students Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship
For their innovative research on the transportation industry, four California State University Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) students have been named to the Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) 2021 Dwight David Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship Program (DDETFP). The merit-based DDETFP awards 150 to 200 fellowships annually to students across the nation to help strengthen the national workforce in the field through education and research.
