High-speed aerial photography is not something that CSUDH alumnus Jim Ross ever saw himself getting into. “Aerial photography was right in line with exotic dancing as jobs I never thought I would have in my lifetime,” he laughs. But despite some hiccups (so to speak) regarding motion sickness, Ross has now been shooting spectacular pictures of aircraft and other NASA projects for almost 35 years. He currently serves as the photo lead at NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center in Edwards, Calif. His work was recognized in April 2024, when his picture of research pilot Nils Larson making aerobatic maneuvers was named NASA Photo of the Year. Born and raised in Bozeman, Montana, Ross ... Her parents, who had immigrated to the U.S. from Mexico as children, brought Chávez with them to meetings, marches, and political organizing events. “The organization was like an extended family,” says Chávez, now a professor of Chicana and Chicano studies at CSUDH. “I was little at the time, but seeds were planted in me. First Annual Toro Giving Day Brings in Record Number of New Donors
CSUDH’s first Toro Giving Day was a huge success, far exceeding the target number of donations and raising thousands of dollars to support key programs across campus. The event, held March 20, was a one-day fundraising blitz, intended to give the Toro community an opportunity to channel their support for CSUDH in a singular fashion, by banding together and donating all at once. The initial goal for the day was 300 individual donors, which would unlock a $20,000 challenge donation from the board of directors of the CSUDH Philanthropic Foundation. That target was surpassed long before the day was up, with a final tally of 476 donors committing $80,102 to programs and initiatives at ... Read More
