On Monday, March 18, the Leo F. Cain University Library introduced a striking new addition to the CSUDH campus: a huge mural created by Presidential Artist in Residence Cristina Martinez. In February, a CSUDH delegation traveled to the California State Capitol to discuss the critical need for investment in the CSU with government officials and policymakers. This year’s visit included meetings with Secretary of State Shirley Weber, State Senators Steve Bradford and Lena Gonzalez, and Assemblymember Mia Bonta, and also marked the first time that CSUDH brought a corporate partner to advocate for higher education. Toro Men’s Basketball Earns NCAA Tournament Berth
For the first time since the 2010-2011 season, the CSUDH men’s basketball team is headed to the NCAA Division II Tournament. The team’s strong 22-7 overall record and 17-5 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) conference record earned them an at-large berth in the tournament. The Toros will start their quest for a national championship on Friday, March 15, against Central Washington University at 7:30 p.m. Their first- and second-round games will be played at Cal State L.A., the number one seed in the eight-team regional round. Instead of decreasing, the graduation equity gaps between Black, Latino and Native or Indigenous students have been increasing. But some campuses are targeting new dollars and deploying new strategies to specifically target students of color that will help increase graduation, persistence and retention.
