If all goes well, Assistant Professor of Kinesiology Scott Cheatham's research could open doors for new methods of examining people who suffer from fibromyalgia and myofascial pain syndrome–two chronic conditions that cause widespread pain in the muscles and tissues of the body–and related issues such as fatigue. For over a year, Cheatham, who serves as director of Cal State Dominguez Hills' Pre-Physical Therapy Program, studied more than 90 individuals with fibromyalgia and myofascial pain. CSUDH’s $2.6 Million Education Grant to Improve Success of Underserved Students
California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) has received a $2.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education (ED) to create “Project Accelerate” to improve the learning, persistence, and overall success of CSUDH students, while decreasing their time to earning a degree. The five-year, $524,8702 a year grant is funded under the ED's Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) Program - Title V, which provides grants to assist HSI campuses, like CSUDH, increase enrollment and educational opportunities for Hispanic and high-need students. To resolve a personal conflict, a middle school student might turn to a family member, a friend, or a teacher. Sometimes students also seek support from each other through a school program. This is the goal at Andrew Carnegie Middle School in Carson, California where students are taught to manage and solve conflict. Today at a school-wide assembly at Andrew Carnegie Middle School, artist and social activist Forest Whitaker–the Founder and CEO of the Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative (WPDI) and UNESCO Special Envoy for Peace and Reconciliation–officially launched the Domestic Harmonizer Program with California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH).
