Sophomore Gabreelynn Daniels is following in her family's footsteps: her mother Rosalind Carter (Class of '79, B.A., human services); father Thomas Daniels (Class of '79, B.A., kinesiology); and sister Krystal Parks (Class of '04, B.A., communications) all graduated from California State University, Dominguez Hills. However, the communications major is blazing her own trail in the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), mentoring her fellow students. In addition, she has written two short plays for EOP to present to incoming freshmen about how to succeed in college. Organized in conjunction with the Center for the Study of Political Graphics in Los Angeles, and curated by Michele Bury, associate professor and chair of the Department of Art and Design at California State University, Dominguez Hills, “Subvertisements: Using Ads and Logos for Protest,” an exhibit of 90 posters where logos and ads are visually subverted, opens March 9 at the University Art Gallery and will run through April 13. “Subvertisements” turns corporate identity on its head, subverting popular imagery associated with a brand and forcing viewers to consider broader social and political issues in today's culture. California State University, Dominguez Hills will host the District Swearing-in ceremony for newly elected State Senator Ted Lieu on Saturday, March 5, in the Grand Ballroom of the Loker Student Union. Jerry Groomes Endowed Scholarship Created for Public Administration Students at CSU Dominguez Hills
With an initial contribution from Watson Land Company, California State University, Dominguez Hills has established the Jerry Groomes Endowed Scholarship for Excellence in Public Administration, named in honor of the former Carson city manager. Watson Land Company and CSU Dominguez Hills officials made the announcement of the scholarship at a farewell party for Groomes in early January. Groomes, who had served as city manager of the city of Carson for the past 12 years, left the position to take a job as director of the Southeastern Economic Development Corporation in San Diego. President Mildred García represented California State University, Dominguez Hills during the CSU's Super Sunday event on Feb. 20 by addressing the congregation of Family of Faith Christian Center, a local church that meets in the Loker Student Union.
