The California State University, Dominguez Hills Department of Theatre and Dance was honored with an invitation to perform a scene from the fall 2010 production of "Macbeth" at the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF), which took place Feb. 9 at the Los Angeles Theatre Center in downtown Los Angeles. University Art Gallery Welcomes Return of Shoebox Sculpture Exhibit
California State University, Dominguez Hills is pleased to welcome the “10th International Shoebox Sculpture Exhibition” to the University Art Gallery for a one month showing from February 2 to March 1. The University Art Gallery hosted the fourth, eighth and ninth editions of this popular exhibition in 1992, 2004 and 2007. Organized by the University of Hawai'i at Manoa Art Gallery, the 10th edition will feature 80 sculptures small enough to fit into a shoebox by a roster of well-known international artists. Hal Marienthal (1924-2011) Kept Lifeline of Teaching and Learning
Emeritus professor of English Hal Marienthal died on Jan. 3 after a long battle with cancer. Until his death, the native of Germany continued his 63-year teaching career through teaching and mentoring students in the Humanities External Master's Degree (HUX) program at California State University, Dominguez Hills, and taught screenwriting at the University of North Carolina, Asheville. “Hal contributed to the success of several programs and countless CSU Dominguez Hills students,” says Margaret Gordon, dean of the College of Extended and International Education. “He loved mentoring students, and his students adored and praised him. Don Hata: Historian Publishes Fourth Edition of Work on Japanese American Incarceration
A fourth edition of “Japanese Americans and World War II: Mass Removal, Imprisonment, and Redress” (with Dr. Nadine Ishitani Hata; Wheeling, Ill.; Harlan Davidson, 2010) has recently been published by Dr. Don Hata, emeritus professor of history. The introductory summary of the subject, which evolved from a 33-page essay, was originally written in 1974 by Hata and his late wife, who taught history at California State University, Dominguez Hills before becoming a professor of history and emeritus vice president of Academic Affairs at El Camino College. Dr. Kimberly Bohman-Kalaja, associate professor of literature in the Humanities External Master of Arts (HUX) program at California State University, Dominguez Hills, has been named a Fulbright Scholar for 2010-2011. “I feel incredibly lucky and truly grateful,” she said of being selected for the prestigious program.
