Distance Learning Courses Now Streaming Live on YouTube

February 10, 2014

Since 1992, California State University, Dominguez Hills' Center for Mediated Instruction and Distance Learning has been at the forefront of providing video courses to the university's distant learners. This semester it continued that trend by offering live streaming on YouTube of the nine courses it is offering this spring. In December 2013 YouTube opened up live streaming capabilities to all users of the popular video-sharing site, and with it, the CSUDHTV YouTube channel opted to take advantage of that new services, said Warren Ashley, director of Mediated Instruction and Distance Learning. Student Kris Hale on Her Time in Thailand

July 16, 2012

Kris Hale is currently doing a summer study abroad in Thailand, which was coordinated through the university's International Education Center. She provides her thoughts on her trip so far: When I  made the decision to travel abroad I made two promises to myself: 1) I would have an open heart and an open mind. 2) I would leave "America" in America and accept that I was not at home and learn to appreciate, accept, and cope with the differences in culture. I feel as though those two things have made this trip amazing. I also meditated and prayed for opportunities to grow as an individual, and Thailand has provided a number of those. Being one of very few Blacks in Thailand and fewer ... Read More

Justelle Cain: An African American’s Experience in Africa

February 20, 2012

Justelle Cain (bottom row center) with other students in the University Studies Abroad Consortium program in Ghana visiting the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra, Ghana

The signs had been there for several years that Justelle Cain would go to Africa one day. They were subtle at first: a conversation about a friend’s trip to Morocco that piqued Cain’s interest in the continent that, at the time, wasn't even on her radar; then a cultural pluralism course on African and American culture that made her think more about her own African heritage. It all came to a head, though, for the senior psychology major last spring — and now, a year later, she’s talking about her experiences studying abroad in Ghana over the fall 2011 semester. She will give a talk “An African American in Africa” (postponed from last week) on Monday, Feb. 27, from 1 to 2 p.m. in meeting ... Read More
