California State University, Dominguez Hills will host the District Swearing-in ceremony for newly elected State Senator Ted Lieu on Saturday, March 5, in the Grand Ballroom of the Loker Student Union. The event is open to the public.
“CSU Dominguez Hills is delighted that Senator Ted Lieu has chosen our university as the location for his oath of office ceremony,” said university president Mildred García. “As the only four-year public university in the South Bay, our partnership with Senator Lieu is an important one for this region. We look forward to working with him on enhanced opportunities for access to higher education as a way to overcome California’s economic barriers and restore investment in our communities.”
Lieu was elected to the 28th District of the California Senate in a special election on February 15 following the death of Senator Jenny Oropeza. He represents the cities of Carson, El Segundo, Hermosa Beach, Lomita, Long Beach, Manhattan Beach, Torrance, Lennox, Marina Del Ray and unincorporated communities of Los Angeles.
He was officially sworn into office in Sacramento on February 18. The District Swearing-in ceremony is an opportunity for the newly elected senator to thank his supporters, as well as for members of the community to witness this tradition in government that marks his commitment as their representative.
Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster will preside over the ceremony, which will begin at 3 p.m. Jerome Horton, vice chair of the California Board of Equalization, will administer the oath of office. Speaking at the event will be Assemblymembers Warren Furutani and Bonnie Lowenthal, Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones, State Controller John Chiang, and Greg Saks, vice president of University Advancement at CSU Dominguez Hills.
