College of Arts and Humanities
Michael Desrochers, adjunct faculty member in history, contributed revisions to his chapter “Religions of Antiquity” to the survey text “World Religions: Western Traditions, Fourth Edition” (Oxford University Press, 2014).
Ken Roth, lecturer in digital media arts, co-authored a chapter, “Realizing Race: Media Representation and the Uneasy Adjustment of Asian International Students and African American males on U.S. College Campuses” to “Approaches to Managing Organizational Diversity and Innovation” (IGI Global, April 2014), a new book edited by Nancy Erbe, professor of negotiation, conflict resolution and peacebuilding.
Laura Talamante, assisted professor of history, co-authored a chapter, “Globalizing Migration Dialogue: A Model for Combining Innovative Pedagogy Community-Service Learning, and Research” also to Erbe’s book, “Approaches to Managing Organizational Diversity and Innovation” (IGI Global, April 2014).
College of Business Administration and Public Policy
Tayyeb Shabbir, professor of finance and director of the Institute of Entrepreneurship, presented a keynote address at the fourth International Conference on Business Management at the Institute of Business Administration in Sukkur, Pakistan in February. His talk was titled “Entrepreneurship and Economic Develoment” and highlighted the innovative, pro-growth and poverty alleviation aspects of entrepreneurship globally.
Shabbir also delivered a lecture on entrepreneurship to MBA students at IBA Karachi, the first foreign institute established by the Wharton School of Business back in 1951.
College of Health, Human Services, and Nursing
Mekada Graham, associate professor of social work, presented a research seminar at the Noon Centre for Equality and Diversity in Business, Royal Docks Business School, in East London, England, her home town. The seminar was held in March and Graham engaged students in her research which explores student narratives and their journey through higher education.
College of Natural and Behavioral Sciences
Thomas Landefeld, professor of biology and pre-health adviser, and two students have been awarded a Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) MARC (Maximizing Access to Research Careers) Program travel awards to attend the International Society of Endocrinology and the Endocrine Society’s 96th annual meeting, ICE/ENDO 2014, in Chicago, IL from June 21-24, 2014. They were among only 11 recipients to receive travel awards for the conference from FASEB.
Books
Nancy Erbe, professor of negotiation, conflict resolution and peacebuilding, is the editor of “Approaches to Managing Organizational Diversity and Innovation” (IGI Global, April 2014), which presents chapters by experts in numerous fields presenting different models and approaches that are capable of transforming societies, citizens, and professionals so they are better prepared to embrace diversity.
