Department of Theatre and Dance Announces Public Audition Opportunities for Fall Season

August 15, 2019

2019 fall auditions

(Carson, CA) – California State University, Dominguez Hills’ (CSUDH) Department of Theatre and Dance will hold auditions Aug. 28 and 29 in the University Theatre for its fall 2019 theatre productions of “Asuncion” and “Fuddy Meers.” The auditions are open to the public and seek performers from all demographics and ages.

“Asuncion” runs October 11-20:  Four roles are open for audition, three men and one woman.

“Asuncion,” by Jesse Eisenberg, is a play that challenges our own views of politics and race. When a young Filipina woman named Asuncion becomes the roommate of Edgar and Vinny, the men attempt to prove how open minded they really are, but she serves to expose the shallowness of their sensitivity through the wild assumptions Edgar makes about her based on cultural stereotypes. Eisenberg’s hilarious and heartbreaking play explores the complicated ways culture and politics are exploited for one’s needs. The play is directed by CSUDH Professor of Theatre Arts Naomi Buckley.

“Fuddy Meers” runs November 8-17:  Seven roles are open for audition, four men and three women.

“Fuddy Meers,” by David Lindsay-Abaire, portrays Claire, the protagonist, with a rare form of psychogenic amnesia that erases her memory whenever she falls asleep. Hailed by the New York Times as a “wisecracking, self-conscious dysfunctional family comedy,” this poignant and brutal comedy traces one woman’s attempt to regain her memory while surrounded by a curio-cabinet of alarmingly bizarre characters. The production is directed by CSUDH Professor of Theatre Arts Brian Stevens.

Audition requirements. Participants must prepare a one- to two-minute contemporary comedic monologue. Please bring a current photo, resume, and a list of all known rehearsal and production conflicts.

Practice scripts are available on campus at the University Theatre Callboard outside UT A102. Click here for a campus map. CSUDH’s University Theatre complex is located on Toro Center Drive/Tamcliff Street off Victoria Street in the city of Carson. The closest parking to the University Theatre is on campus in Lot 3. A parking permit is required and may be purchased in Lot 3 for $9.
