The Society of American Archaeology (SAA) has named Jerry Moore, chair of Academic Senate and professor of anthropology at California State University, Dominguez Hills, the recipient of its 2014 Book Award for his book, “The Prehistory of Home” (University of California Press, Berkeley, 2012).
Moore will be formally recognized with the presentation of a plaque during the SAA’s Annual Business Meeting and Awards Ceremony to be held in Austin, Texas, on April 25. He will also receive a citation in The SAA Archaeological Record and acknowledgment on the awards page of the SAA website.
The society awards two prizes annually to honor recently published books; one for a book affecting archaeological research, the other that presents the results of archaeological research to a broader audience.
“It is a great honor to be awarded the 2014 Book Award by the Society for American Archaeology,” said Moore, whose book was recognized by SAA for its popular appeal. “I strongly believe that archaeologists–and scholars, artists, and investigators in all fields–must explain and articulate their discoveries and insights to broader audiences. In large part, I have learned how to connect with general audience as I have learned and practiced the craft of teaching as a professor at CSU Dominguez Hills.”
