CSUDH Continues to Climb in National Rankings

Graduates celebrating at Commencement

The newest university ranking lists from U.S. News & World Report and Washington Monthly reflect CSUDH’s strong commitment to equity and access, and its success in helping students secure a better future. CSUDH jumped up the ranks in several categories for 2022-23, scoring especially well for the excellent economic and social value the university provides.

U.S. News & World Report

U.S. News & World Report’s rankings this year assessed 1,500 institutions on measures such as admissions selectivity, social mobility, academic reputation, and graduation and retention rates. Institution types are grouped into national universities, liberal arts colleges, regional colleges, or regional universities.

CSUDH’s highest placements were 2nd place for Economic Diversity (West) and 6th place for Least Debt (West), reflecting CSUDH’s affordability and accessibility for students of all socioeconomic backgrounds.

The university also earned spots within the top 50 of several categories, including 18th in Social Mobility, 21st in Best College for Veterans (West), and 25th in Top Public Schools (West). The university also placed 56th for Best Regional University (West).

Washington Monthly

Washington Monthly’s rankings emphasize the “public good” colleges and universities have on the country.

CSUDH placed highly for Best Bang for the Buck (West), earning 11th place for how well it helps non-wealthy students attain affordable, marketable degrees.

The university also rose to 14th place among Master’s Universities, the magazine’s all-around category which measures social mobility, research, and promoting public service. The ranking is a significant leap from 2021, when CSUDH placed 45th.

“These rankings are a testament to the success of our core mission here at CSUDH: to provide an affordable education which is both academically strong and socially just,” said President Thomas A. Parham. “We are not about exclusivity, even as we pride ourselves on producing excellence. We are intentionally inclusive, giving every single student the opportunity to thrive and achieve the full measure of their promise and possibility. We are committed to transforming lives that transform America.”
