Pow Wow Brings Culture, Traditions of Native Americans to Campus

April 29, 2013

On Saturday and Sunday, April 20 and 21, the California State University, Dominguez Hills Pow Wow took place in the campus Sculpture Garden and featured exhibitions of traditional songs and dances performed by men and women in colorful and elaborate tribal regalia, as well as social dancing, singing and drumming, flute music, arts and crafts, and food. It was the third consecutive year for the pow wow and brought members of Native American Nations throughout the country to campus to share their culture and traditions with the local community.

“Our entire campus community –President Hagan, faculty, staff, student volunteers–and our American Indian community, came together, each person sharing his/her time and talent to produce an amazing event,” said Cheryl McKnight, director of the Center for Service Learning, Internships and Civic Engagement (SLICE) who helped organize the pow wow.

Photos of the day taken by student Marko Germono are featured in the Third Annual CSUDH Pow Wow album on the CSUDH Facebook page.

Below is a short video of highlights from the day produced by the Center of Mediated Instruction and Distance Learning:
