California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) has received an $8,000 grant from the Pasadena Art Alliance to support a culmination art exhibition of CSUDH’s Praxis Studio, a year-long extracurricular, cross-disciplinary arts and design program that explores community through socially engaged artistic expression.

The university is one of 34 Southern California arts organizations, nonprofits and educational institutions selected by the Pasadena Art Alliance for its 2017 grant cycle.

Praxis Studio was created and co-founded by Devon Tsuno, assistant professor in CSUDH’s Art and Design Department, and L.A.-based interdisciplinary project Big City Forum through a $40,000 Creative California Communities grant from the California Arts Council. During the 2016-17 academic year, Praxis Studio has been organizing youth community art forums, bringing high school students from local Los Angeles Unified School District schools to CSUDH to work with four different artists in residence and CSUDH art and design students on community-centered art projects.

The Pasadena Art Alliance grant will be used to curate a Praxis Studio exhibition that will feature design, sculpture, installations, performances, and paintings highlighting the results of the various workshops. The exhibition would run from January to March 2018.
