Staff Lunch Serves up Smiles and Appreciation

July 16, 2012

Sue Borrego, vice president of enrollment management and student affairs, University President Willie Hagan, and Brian Cummins, human resources manager of benefits and workers compensation happily serve lunch to staff.

About 450 of the nearly 600 full- and part-time staff members at California State University, Dominguez Hills came out from virtually every nook and cranny of the campus to enjoy a complimentary lunch in their honor on July 10. Although the line for food winded around the Loker Student Union Palm Courtyard, workers were having a great time taking a break from their duties, visiting with each other and enjoying some good eats.

Donned in chef aprons, top administrators served up hamburgers, veggie burgers, hot dogs, sides, and all the fixin’s.

“We have a great staff and I was very pleased to have the opportunity to appreciate and thank them for all they do in making a difference in the lives of our students and advancing the university,” said university Interim President Willie Hagan.

While the activities of the annual celebration have changed throughout the years, Benjamin Boish, manager of human resources compensation and training, said its sentiment has remained unchanged.

“It is meant to be a fun, social event, and morale booster for staff employees; a way that administration shows its appreciation of our staff,” said Boish, who organized the event.

Ending on a sweet note, employees were treated to cake, ice cream and watermelon.
