Queer Culture and Resource Center Opens at CSUDH
With the drop of a rainbow-colored ribbon and applause from a lively crowd of supporters, California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) officially opened the Queer Culture and Resource Center (QCRC) on April 11. Located off the West Walkway next to the DH Sports Lounge's busy patio, the resource center has already begun to fulfill one of its primary goals: to provide a visible and welcoming space for students who historically have not been well recognized on university campuses. Words of admiration and promise filled the Loker Student Union Grand Ballroom as California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) celebrated the investiture of President Thomas A. Parham on Feb. 8. The afternoon ceremony was attended by nearly 450 faculty, staff, students, political figures, and notable community member. CARSON – Tommie Smith raced to the victory stand some 50 years ago after winning the men's 200 meters at the 1968 Olympics. Smith and American teammate John Carlos are more known today for what they did on the medal podium than their first- and third-place finishes at the Mexico City Olympics on Oct. 16 of that year.
