Good afternoon and thank you for being here. We are here today, 75 years after the fact, to remember Presidential Executive Order 9066, issued on February 19, 1942 that led to the mass incarceration of Japanese Americans. I know it is not lost on any of us that whenever people gather for a day of remembrance it is often because something immoral an injustice, occurred in the past. California Campus Compact announced on Aug. 10 that its Executive Board has selected two new members: California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) President Willie J. Hagan, and University of San Diego President James T. Harris III. Harris and Hagan are serving three-year terms, beginning retroactively on July 1, 2016. Hagan was honored on Feb. 3 with the City of Los Angeles's Hall of Fame award for “Outstanding Achievement in Education" at its kick off of African American Heritage month in the city.
