Student Research Day (SRD), CSUDH's primary showcase of student research and scholarship, held its 17th annual competition on Feb. 16 and 17. Despite the obstacles presented by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, a large cohort of Toro student researchers descended on Loker Student Union for the yearly event–with a smaller contingent participating virtually. Over 100 projects were presented in oral presentations or poster sessions. Of those, 28 were selected for honors at the Reception and Award Assembly that closed the event (see list below). CSUDH Professor Enjoys Side Project as TV Anthropology Expert
Whether it's the bones in the Paris catacombs or the historical use of psychedelics, television producers know who to call when they need some expert commentary: CSUDH associate professor of anthropology Sarah Lacy. In the last six months, she has been featured prominently on both the History Channel's The UnXplained with William Shatner and CuriosityStream's History by the Numbers, which also airs on Smithsonian Channel Canada. Lacy's foray as an expert commentator started as a fun YouTube project. School of Public Service and Justice Names First Director
The College of Business Administration and Public Policy's new School of Public Service and Justice has named its first director - C. Augustus “Gus” Martin, professor of criminal justice administration. A nationally recognized expert on terrorism, homeland security, and criminal justice, Martin has been with the university since 2001. He has served CSUDH in a variety of roles, including associate vice president for faculty affairs and associate vice president for human resources management. Fab Lab Teams with Toyota to Bring Dream Cars to Life
Students working in the fabrication labs in CSUDH's Center for Innovation in STEM Education (CISE) got an accelerated course in hands-on project management and design in 2021, when they partnered with Toyota USA for the company's annual Toyota Dream Car USA Art Contest. Each year, children between the ages of 4 and 15 enter the contest, drawing fantastical images that illustrate the car of their dreams.
