CSUDH-led Consortium Receives $550,000 to Develop Hybrid, Lab-Based Biology Courses
(Carson, Ca.) The California Education Learning Lab has awarded $550,000 to California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), El Camino College (ECC), and University of California, Irvine (UCI) to develop hybrid, lab-based biology courses that offer authentic research experiences. The new program will be designed to bring lab research to a much larger number of students, and to expand with demand. Art Professor Devon Tsuno Leads Community Network in Creating, Distributing Face Shields
As the spread of COVID-19 accelerated during the early stages of the pandemic in the U.S., assistant professor of art and design Devon Tsuno became increasingly worried about his wife, Rieko Takamatsu, a nurse treating patients in a Los Angeles hospital that had begun rationing its short supply of personal protective equipment (PPE). Tsuno wanted to do something to help his wife but wasn't sure what. For Anne Garrett, there is one skill that college graduates simply can not do without. “No matter what career someone goes into, it's important that they be able to write competently,” she says.
