California State University, Dominguez Hills Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) student Anna Rosen will be spending eight weeks in Tunisia this summer following her selection by the U.S. Department of State to its Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) program. Rosen was one of only 575 undergraduate and graduate students chosen out of a field of 5,200 applicants nationwide to receive the scholarship for 2012. She will be studying Arabic in the city of Tunis. “I'm really excited,” said the 24-year-old Santa Barbara resident. “It will be my first time to Northern Africa. University’s OSHA Training Center Awarded Exclusive Contract
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Training Institute Education Center (TIEC) at California State University, Dominguez Hills has recently been awarded a sole source contract with the Inspections Division of Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) to provide safety training for employees constructing the $1.5 billion expansion of the Tom Bradley International Terminal at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The signs had been there for several years that Justelle Cain would go to Africa one day. They were subtle at first: a conversation about a friend's trip to Morocco that piqued Cain's interest in the continent that, at the time, wasn't even on her radar; then a cultural pluralism course on African and American culture that made her think more about her own African heritage. It all came to a head, though, for the senior psychology major last spring – and now, a year later, she's talking about her experiences studying abroad in Ghana over the fall 2011 semester. The Veterans Day observance at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) was marked by a week of events to thank and honor all military veterans among the students, alumni, faculty, and staff on the campus. President Mildred García greeted student veterans at an invitation-only luncheon on Tuesday, Nov. 8 in the Loker Student Union. On Nov. 9, a “show-and-tell” exhibit of military equipment was presented by the CSUDH Veterans Alliance, a student-run organization. California State University, Dominguez Hills has been recognized as one of the top colleges and universities in the nation for its support of volunteerism, service learning and civic engagement.
