California State University, Dominguez Hills' (CSUDH) Toro Dreamers Success Center (TDSC) officially opened its doors Jan. 25 with a “meet-and-greet” packed full of faculty, staff, and students there to learn about the “safe space” and the services the center offers undocumented students. Planning for a center that supports and advocates for all of the university's undocumented students began over a year ago. Students in New Call Center Link Generations of Toros to Alma Mater
After only six months on the job, the students placing calls in the Toro Fund Call Center at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) are not only learning new skills and earning some cash, they are also reaching out to alumni eager to better connect with campus and a new generation of Toros. The Toro Fund Call Center is a comprehensive annual giving program developed and managed by CSUDH's Division of University Advancement (UA) and staffed by student “phonathon ambassadors.” The center reaches out to CSUDH's approximately 90,000 alumni to seek donations to create student scholarships and fund such projects as campus improvements and faculty research. After the celebration wound down in Tampa, Fla.– and the 2008 Cal State Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) men's soccer team walked off the field with a Division II NCAA National Championship–the coaching staff made its way back out. “We didn't know when we would be back. We wanted to take in the moment, and it was a really good one,” said Joe Flanagan, head coach of the CSUDH men's soccer team, who explained that walking back on the field is among his most memorable moments as coach. “We had won 3-0, and every player got into the game. President hosts lunch for new Presidential Scholars
There are many advantages to being a California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) Presidential Scholar. The university's most prestigious scholarship, after all, comes with full tuition, book allowances and priority registration. And then there's lunch with the president. This was news to President Willie J. Hagan, who upon his arrival to campus three years ago found out that lunch with him was considered a benefit of the program.
