The California State University, Dominguez Hills Emeritus Faculty Association awarded its 2014 scholarships and grant to four CSU Dominguez Hills students and a faculty member to encourage professional and academic development in areas such as public service and the life sciences. The association, which is made up of more than 200 members, was established to serve the interests of retired members of the general faculty at CSU Dominguez Hills and to support the academic life of the university. Posthumous Degrees Honor Departed Toros
Commencement 2014 was a time for celebration and joy for nearly 3,000 students at California State University, Dominguez Hills, but the event also held a somber reflection to honor four students who died in the past year. During the ceremonies held on May 16 and 17 at the StubHub Center Tennis Stadium, the university awarded four posthumous degrees to Marcela Franco, Tommie Rimmer, Rene Romero and Reyna Diaz-Ramirez. Each had been an active member of student life at the university before their deaths and were well-known for service to their communities. Recognizing recent honors bestowed on students at the end of the 2013-14 academic year and internship and/or research programs in which they are participating over the summer. College of Arts and Humanities Nathan Ortiz, who graduated this year with a degree in theatre arts, dance option, has been accepted into the CSU Summer Arts Program in Monterey Bay.
