Four computer science (CS) majors at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) are spending the fall 2018 semester at Google's headquarters in Mountain View, Calif., gaining professional experience and real-world skills from Google engineers, as part of the company's new Tech Exchange program. When Janet Dial arrived at California State University at Los Angeles in 2014, the fund-raising operation she was taking over was still a work in progress. Fourteen employees staffed the university's advancement office, with four additional positions unfilled. The university had recently paid for new database software to help it track alumni and search for potential donors, but it was still neglecting some key best practices for raising money. California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) has been named a STARS Bronze Institution by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), marking the first time the campus has been recognized nationally for its overall environmental sustainability efforts. AASHE's STARS (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Reporting System) rating system examines such criteria as campus and public engagement, sustainable operations, planning and administration, and innovation and leadership.
