Alumna Monica Cooper: building a ‘robust’ financial future for the City of Carson
Since being voted in as treasurer of the City of Carson in March 2015, California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) alumna Monica Cooper has been probing financial records and systems as she works to make the city's capital safer, its investments more strategic and transparent, and its portfolio more robust. Making Carson more financially viable is not just Cooper's ('91, MPA, and '90 B.S., Public Administration) job as treasurer, but is a promise she made to the city's nearly 93,000 residents when she ran for office. CSUDH opens Orthotics and Prosthetics Education Center in Los Alamitos
Elected officials, industry professionals, faculty, alumni, and campus leaders were guided by knowledgeable California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) students as they toured the university's new Orthotics and Prosthetics Education Center (O&P center) in Los Alamitos during a ribbon-cutting event on Jan. 14. The event provided attendees the opportunity to see, touch and learn about current O&P applications, such as 3-D scanning, prosthetic systems, and the variety of state-of-the-art techniques and equipment available to O&P master's students in the 12,000 square-foot center. Kamal Hamdan has been honored with The California State University's Wang Family Excellence Award for 2016 for his unwavering vision and contributions to California State University, Dominguez Hills' (CSUDH) STEM education programs and curricula, and his commitment to helping develop top educators, particularly for under-served communities. Tony Alfaro, a kinesiology student and former All-American defender for CSUDH's men's soccer team, was invited to participate in the 2016 adidas Major League Soccer (MLS) Player Combine on Jan. 7-12 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Brian Jarrett draws from wealth of experience to help strengthen NCRP program
Whether in the wilds of Alaska, or his new home in urban southern California, becoming part of the local community is crucial to Brian Jarrett's process for serving others, as well as building comprehensive dispute resolution curricula and programs. Jarrett, professor of negotiation, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding (NCRP) - and the program's new director - arrived at CSUDH in August 2015 after serving for five years in a similar capacity at the University of Alaska (UOA). Human Services students help connect veterans and employers at job fair
The Cal State Dominguez Hills' (CSUDH) Human Services Student Association (HSSA) will be spending part of their winter break doing one of the key principles of their major, helping others. In particular, HSSA members will be helping to connect veterans with the right employers during the Veterans Job Fair at the StubHub Center on Jan. 3, 2016. The job fair, which takes place from noon to 5 p.m., is being coordinated by the StubHub Center in conjunction with the Marine Corp Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl, a national high school football camp series and bowl game. Andreas Klein mesmerizes audience at Steinway by Starlight
Playing flawlessly by memory for more than an hour, classical pianist and Steinway Artist Andreas Klein left a lasting impression on the audience at the university's third Steinway by Starlight concert.
