Approximately 250 faculty, staff, and students from California State University, Dominguez Hills joined top university administrators on Feb. 20 in the Loker Student Union Ballroom for a first in a series of town halls designed to provide participants with an opportunity to contribute suggestions and recommendations toward revising the campus's current Strategic Plan. Student Researchers Perfect Presentation Skills During PEGS Boot Camps
Student researchers at California State University, Dominguez Hills had the opportunity to hone their presentation skills during boot camps offered on Feb. 1 and 8 by the university's Promoting Excellence in Graduate Studies (PEGS) program. Leena Furtado, professor and chair of the Division of Graduate Education, who is also the director and principle investigator of PEGS, said PEGS created the boot camp workshops to assist a growing number of CSU Dominguez Hills students who present at conferences. Distance Learning Courses Now Streaming Live on YouTube
Since 1992, California State University, Dominguez Hills' Center for Mediated Instruction and Distance Learning has been at the forefront of providing video courses to the university's distant learners. This semester it continued that trend by offering live streaming on YouTube of the nine courses it is offering this spring. Health Science Majors Volunteer to Promote Youth Fitness at Redondo Beach Supert Bowl 10k/5k
California State University, Dominguez Hills health science majors in the Health Science Student Alliance (HSSA) spent Super Bowl Sunday promoting fitness as fun to children in the South Bay. Kaiser Permanente South Bay invited the student organization to participate in its annual Kids Corner as part of the 36th Annual Redondo Beach Super Bowl 10k/5k free Health and Fitness Expo. The Society of American Archaeology (SAA) has named Jerry Moore, chair of Academic Senate and professor of anthropology at California State University, Dominguez Hills, the recipient of its 2014 Book Award for his book, “The Prehistory of Home” (University of California Press, Berkeley, 2012). Moore will be formally recognized with the presentation of a plaque during the SAA's Annual Business Meeting and Awards Ceremony to be held in Austin, Texas, on April 25.
