California State University, Dominguez Hills is recognized as one of the nation's top 100 universities granting undergraduate and graduate degrees to minority students, according to Diverse: Issues in Higher Education. In the magazine's “Top 100 Undergraduate Degree Producers” published this month, CSU Dominguez Hills ranked 52nd nationally in total number of bachelor's degrees–and 85th in total number of master's degrees–awarded to minority students during 2011-12, the year of the most current data reported to the U.S. Department of Education. Alumni Adrian Arceo, Chris Avalos, Corey Cohen, Bryan Papp, and Jeff Saign were transfer students who met and bonded during their first year at California State University, Dominguez Hills. Elizabeth Jackson, an adjunct professor in negotiation, conflict resolution and peacebuilding (NCRP) at California State University, Dominguez Hills, has been a guest lecturer in 17 countries, with her latest assignment taking her to Russia. University to Host National Park Service Planning Meeting On Tule Lake
The University Library at California State University, Dominguez Hills will host one of several public workshops organized by the National Park Service this summer to plan a vision for the Tule Lake Unit of World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument, which preserves the Tule Lake Segregation Center site where more than 29,000 Japanese Americans were forcibly removed and incarcerated during World War II. The meeting, which is open to the public, will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, July 25, on the fifth floor of the Library's South Wing. The California State University, Dominguez Hills family suffered another tragic loss in June with the untimely deaths of digital media arts major René Romero and alumna Stefanie Ramirez (Class of 2011, B.S. sociology), who died in a car accident on Friday, June 28. Robert Armando Anderson, 44, thought analytically about the world around him even when he was a child, so much so that while growing up in Compton, his nickname was “Professor Bob.” As if fulfilling a prophecy, the California State University, Dominguez Hills alumnus (Class of '96, B.A., sociology/minor in public administration; '99, M.A., sociology) has enjoyed a 16-year career at Colin P. Alumna Alexxandra Salazar Immersed in Cambodian Culture
Alexxandra Salazar, 24, has come a long way since graduating magna cum laude as a Ronald E. McNair Scholar in May of this year with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from California State University, Dominguez Hills. In fact, the California native is about 8,000 miles away immersed in Cambodian culture. Salazar was selected in spring by the nonprofit Teach Cambodia, Inc. to serve for a month as a volunteer and intern in Cambodia.
